McCaffrey creates a world of intrigue and adventure. The story is told primarily through narration, handled ably by Susan Ericksen, who uses inflection and timing to skillfully advance the multitude of characters. The special effects enhancing the voices of the various artificial intelligence (AI) units support the concept that the each of these units has been modeled on a living person but has taken on a somewhat unique personality of its own.
